Botox cosmetic treatment is one of the most popular procedures today. Often joked about, especially among celebrities, this is done to erase moderate to deep frown lines that appear in both men and women over 18 years of age. Each session usually lasts for only 10 minutes. Read more about the Botox substance on our Botox cosmetic page.
Consultation before the Procedure
Before you get any dose of Botox, you need to be checked up by a doctor. The initial appointment will involve talking about your concerns, medical history, and responses to questions that you might have. There are some clinics where the initial consultation is done with a trained doctor, but not the one who will perform the procedure. It is recommended that you insist in talking to the doctor who will be doing the treatment before it’s performed on you. This procedure is usually repeated after some months, so it would be best that you have a doctor that you’re sure you’ll be comfortable with in all the succeeding sessions.
You need to inform your doctor of any allergy or medical condition that you have as it may be something that can expose you to the risks of the treatment. For instance, if you are suffering from neuromuscular disorders like Lambert-Eaton syndrome, myasthenia gravis or ALS, you might face some serious side effects. In this case, the doctor may not want to recommend Botox for you.
During and After the Procedure
Patients are usually not required to be given anesthesia before a Botox cosmetic procedure. The doctor might just need to make numb the area to be injected by using an anesthetic cream or ice pack. Your ability to be able to move some muscles in the brow area will be a big factor in determining the positioning of the injections. This is generally done during the initial consultation or right before the actual treatment session.
As soon as the procedure is over, you can go back to work, as usual. This treatment doesn’t involve any recovery time. However, in some cases, there are patients who experience side effects. There are those who might feel a little nauseous after the session, so they might need to rest for the day. Inflammation, infection, localized pain, redness, and bruising or bleeding may be experienced also, but very rare. If ever they do come up, they usually disappear fast.
