Outside Lower Eyelid
Please fill the Details
An eyelid consists of layers of fat, muscle and skin. As you grow older, environmental factors and aging can cause skin damage. More specifically, your face, including your eyelids, loses its original elasticity and structure. Your outside lower eyelid will show skin that’s become lax. Your muscle layers tend to be weaker, resulting in eyelids that appear sagging and drooping. Also, fat deposits are responsible for giving your eyelids their full appearance. As you age, these fat deposits become depleted, also contributing to the sagging and weakened muscles.

Eyelid surgery
Your doctor may recommend surgery to improve the appearance of your eyelids. Depending on your initial consultation, he may even recommend more than one procedure to completely restore the look in your eye area. His recommendations will depend on factors including the amount of excess fat and skin in the problem areas, the structure of your eyebrows and the whole eye region, and the condition of the muscles in and around the problem areas. After examining these and other essentials, your doctor will choose the treatment or treatments that will be best for you.
Outside lower eyelid surgery usually will require an incision just below the lower lashes. Expert surgeons can make the incision really hidden and almost invisible once it heals. The excess fat, skin, and muscles will be removed through the incision. Fat may also be redistributed, depending on the level of puffiness your eyelids have.
Muscle laxity can also be corrected in the lower eyelids similar to how it’s done in upper eyelid surgery. Incision will, of course, be along the natural creases so that the scar will be hidden once the incision heals. Your doctor may also decide to remove excess fat deposits through the inside lower eyelid, instead of the outer lower eyelid. This is only if no excess skin needs to be removed through regular surgery. Laser technique may be used if the skin only requires minimal tightening.
Recovery and Risks
You’ll experience swelling and bruising after the surgery. You’ll have a scar from the incisions made, but if expertly done, the incisions will leave almost invisible scars.
Complications and risks in an eyelid procedure are mostly those common to any surgery. These include allergic reactions, infection, hematoma or blood accumulation under the skin, and visible scarring. If not done properly, the surgery may have to be redone.
This is why you should choose your doctor carefully if you’re thinking of having an outside lower eyelid treatment. Make sure the surgeon you go to is someone who’s experienced in the field and has a good track record to prove it.
