Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery
Please fill the Details
Cosmetic eyelid surgery removes any excess fat, muscle or skin from your lower and upper eyelids. Also called blepharoplasty, this procedure can improve the baggy skin under your eyes, correct upper eyelids that seem to have sunk, and remedy drooping eyelashes that ay be impairing your vision. It can also be used to treat ptosis, which is the drooping condition of the upper or lower eyelid that becomes worse while the person stays awake longer as his affected muscles become more tired. Additionally, eyelid surgery can be done together with other procedures like facelifts or brow lifts to complete the makeover of a face.
Reasons for the Procedure
Aging skin is a main reason for people to undergo blepharoplasty. Your face forms excess skin as you get older. Your skin loses elasticity and this is very observable in the eye area. The fatty tissues that accumulate under the skin in the eye region make you appear look older than you really are. While some people are able to maintain the skin in their eye area with topical eye care and skin care cosmetic products alone, there are people who aren’t that fortunate.
How It’s Done
The surgery itself starts with the doctor doing incisions along the upper eyelids’ creases. The excess skin, muscle and fat under your skin are removed. Tiny stitches will be made to close the incisions. Visit our upper eyelid surgery page if you need to more about this procedure.
If necessary, incisions on the lower eyelids are made right below the lashes in your eyes’ creases. Same procedure as that of the upper lids will be done. Scars left by the incisions done in this procedure are generally almost invisible.
In the case of ptosis, cosmetic eyelid surgery is usually done with another procedure to completely address the condition.
Post-Procedure Reminders
While this is an outpatient procedure, you’d need to follow strict eye care guidelines from your doctor. You’d have to do all the special instructions on how to clean your eyes. You might be asked to consistently elevate your head and use lubricating eye drops. Use of contact lenses, makeup and alcohol are normally prohibited for those who have just undergone cosmetic eyelid surgery. Watching television is also not advisable to prevent eye strain.
Stitches are removed in approximately 7 days after surgery. While waiting for the bruising and swelling from surgery to heal, it would be best if you wear sunglasses when going out.
