A brow lift (also referred to as forehead lift) is a type of cosmetic surgery procedure that is performed in order to reduce the creases that will appear in your forehead with age. We saw that most patients are aged between 40 and 70 and there is such a thing as the best candidate, although this does vary a lot. In fact, all cosmetic surgery procedures are based on the individual and not a group of people. There are also younger individuals that can benefit from brow lifts in the event that there are premature aging signs visible on their foreheads. A good example can be given in drooping eyebrows. Sometimes a forehead lift is performed in a combination with a hair transplant, a fat transfer, a facelift or a blepharoplasty. The combination that should be done is to be determined after a consultation done by a specialist.

There are two main methods that are used to perform a brow lift. The first one is known as “Conventional Forehead Lift”. If you are to go through this, the start of the procedure will see you with the hair trimmed and then tied back. This is done in order to not interfere with the region where the doctor will make the needed incision. The actual area where the incision is done is chosen by the doctor, based on your face and where it would be as less visible as possible. In a conventional brow lift the surgeon will make one incision that is long. The skin of the forehead is lifted and all extra tissue will be removed. Your muscles will be removed or repositioned and the eyebrows will be lifted. If there is extra skin present in any location it will be removed as well. After all is done the doctor will close the incision and in most situations a bandage will be wrapped round your head. In most cases the bandages are removed in 2 days after the surgery. The possible clips and stitches will be taken out in around 14 days.

The second way that the brow lift can be performed is known as “Endoscopic Forehead Lift”. In this case we are dealing with many small incisions that are made in your scalp. The doctor will use an endoscopic instrument in order to have a map of the eyebrows and forehead. Another instrument is then utilized in order to remove any extra skin, muscle or fat on your eyebrows and forehead. In some locations the surgeon might choose to use sutures or screws in order to hold the new position of your altered muscle or skin.

Before going through with the brow lift you need to understand that there are associated risks with this procedure, just as with any other cosmetic surgery out there. For instance, in some cases a patient will see that he/she can not move the forehead or eyebrow anymore. In this case there might be a need for an extra surgery to be done. Statistics have shown that endoscopic forehead lift patients have shown fewer complications in the past. In fact, only 1 percent of people that god forehead lifts had problems.

Since we are talking about a difficult procedure, we need to put an emphasis on you dealing only with good, accredited surgeons. Experience is always important and the more procedures that the doctor did, the less the chances to develop problems. You will need to keep a close relationship with him and ask everything that you do not understand. After all, we are talking about your face and you will want to know everything that will and could happen during or after the brow lift procedure.
