Cosmetic Surgery Addiction

You rarely hear people talking about this subject because surgeons usually do want you to have cosmetic surgery done on your body. The reason is simple: money! Unfortunately not all is linked with looks and money! There is one huge debate going on at the moment that talks about the possibility to suffer from what was labeled as cosmetic surgery addiction.
It is normal to not like some parts of your bodies. Every single person has one body part that they simply do not like and that should be changed from their point of views. The problem is that you really need to consider the reason why you want the procedure done. This basically means that you need to start asking yourself several questions. First of, are you simply doing a cosmetic surgery procedure because of the standards of beauty that you notice on TV? Then, are you realistic about the possible benefits that can be obtained through the surgery?
Recently we have heard about one condition that can lead people to getting too many cosmetic procedures done on their bodies. It is labeled as BDD (body dismorphic disorder). We can define it as a constant preoccupation shown by women and men in connection with a physical defect that is just imagined or a concern to a small defect that is exaggerated. Such a condition can lead people to consulting plastic surgeons in order to correct the problem.
There is one common example that is always appearing when talking about cosmetic surgery addiction. We are talking about Michael Jackson and several other celebrities that have simply had too many procedures done on them. There is probably nobody that would say that these individuals are not suffering from cosmetic surgery addiction. Doctors believe that the stress caused by always living in the spotlight and the need to always look better can push people towards undergoing too many plastic procedures.
Now the problem stands in the fact that people that suffer from BDD will always find doctors that will do an extra procedure on them. This is because of the money aspect mentioned above. Some doctors have refused to perform another cosmetic surgery on an individual that does not really need it but the truth is that few will do this. We can say that this is more of a reality today than a few years ago because there are a lot more specialists and clinics available. The truth is that people that show cosmetic surgery addiction can not be stopped at the moment as there is no law anywhere in the world that will stop them from doing as many operations as they want to.
According to various psychologists, such a condition can not be solved with the intervention of a surgeon. Patients need professional help and we are talking about psychiatric help. A talk will rarely do any good because there is always the belief that they need to look better than they already do. Unfortunately it is very hard to do anything without help from professionals and friends or family of the people that are suffering from cosmetic surgery addiction.
If you already had several cosmetic surgeries done we recommend that you stop and take a close look at your body. Does it really need another one or are you just imagining it? Remember that every man is different and there is no such thing as being able to look like one individual. Trust the surgeon that has experience and consult with your friends. If everyone is telling you that you do not need the surgery and you think you do maybe it is time to talk to a psychiatrist.
