Under Breast Incision
Please fill the Details
Under breast incision, also known as inframammary fold (IMF), crease or line, is one of the most popular incisions used in breast augmentation. It allows the doctor to put or remove implants. This incision allows more visible control for the doctor and bypasses the milk ducts.
Implants through IMF Incision
The cosmetic surgeon selects the best area to place the incision, which is under the breast and close to the inframammary fold. After the incision is made, a pocket will be created where the breast implant will be placed. The implant is slid upward through the incision and centered behind the nipple. This type of incision is done to secure proper placement of the implant and to hide the scar. This will allow you to wear bikini tops even after you’ve had surgery.
Subglandular and Submuscular Surgeries
The under breast incision is usually chosen because of its major advantages over other types of incision. First of all, this incision lets the doctors place breast implants in three areas – subglandular, partial submuscular, and complete submuscular.
In a subglandular surgery, the implant is placed behind your breast, but in front of the muscles and fibrous tissues lining the front of your ribs and chest wall.
In a partial submuscular surgery, the implant is placed behind your breast tissue and partially under your pectoral and other chest muscles. The doctor has to cut the lower part of your pectoralis major muscle to allow the upper portion of your implant to be set deep beneath the muscle while the lower portion is subglandular or beneath the breast. In a complete submuscular surgery, however, the implant is placed behind your breast and the major muscle groups in your chest area.
Possible Risk
In most cases, the surgeon will put the under breast incision in a position that will make it appear above your inframammary fold. This is to hide the scar. But the surgeon has to estimate the perfect location for the incision. Otherwise, this will result to scars visibly high or low on your breasts.
This type of breast incision can definitely be very beneficial. However, like other surgical procedures, it can also pose a problem if not performed properly. This is why you need to choose carefully the surgeon you’ll be dealing with. Make sure you go to someone who specializes in breast enhancement procedures and have a lot of experience in performing this incision.
