Arm Lift
Please fill the Details
An arm lift is a type of cosmetic surgery done to take off excess fat and skin from the underarm to the elbow. Those who’d like to have toned upper arms complete with smooth skin and proportionate contours usually come to cosmetic surgeons to have this procedure.
Flabby arms are caused by weight gain or loss, aging, or heredity. Even those who have developed their sagging upper arms into toned and stronger ones can be faced with excess skin that has lost its elasticity. Flabs may also be brought about by fat deposits or weakened muscle tissues. If you’ve got this problem, you might want to consider having this procedure, which is also called brachioplasty.
How It’s Done
Before the surgery itself, you’d be given an intravenous sedation or a general anesthesia. Usually, the doctor will suggest the best medication for you, considering your medical history, nature of surgery, etc. The incision is usually done on the inside of your arm or at the back. It may be extended from the underarm up to the area above your elbow.
Please note that if you’ve got excess fat that will be removed during this surgery, liposuction will also be performed. If you think you’ll also need this procedure, visit our liposuction page for more information. Also, in some cases, the surgeon does a more limited incision than usual and does internal sutures to tighten and reshape underlying tissues.
Absorbable sutures are commonly used to close the incisions. In a couple weeks, expect that your stitches will be ready to be removed.
After the Surgery
Your doctor will give you instructions that would be ideal for you to follow if you wish to have a smooth and speedy recovery. Expect him to inform you about caring for the site of the surgery. Since you might also have a small tube placed under your skin to drain excess fluid from the surgery, follow any special instructions about this. You’ll also be prescribed with medications to help your wounds heal fast and avoid infection.
Reminders
As in any other type of surgery, an arm lift presents these possible risks – infection, fluid accumulation, poor healing of wound, risks from anesthesia, bleeding, unfavorable scarring, and many others. Make sure that you go to a doctor that is well-respected in cosmetic surgery, particularly in this procedure. It is recommended that you talk to him in detail about your medical history and the procedure. Be clear of your expectations from the surgery. Be sure also that your doctor tells you what are the realistic promises of the procedure.
