Liposculpture
Please fill the Details
Liposculpture, or liposuction, is a procedure done to improve the contours of your body by removing fat deposits that are localized and cannot be eliminated through regular diet and exercising. The abdomen and thighs are the frequent targets in this kind of treatment. However, the face and even breasts that need reduction can be done with this procedure, too.
Read our abdominal liposuction page if you wish to learn more about this procedure.
How It Is Done
A session of this procedure can be completed in 2 hours. Depending on the volume of fat deposits that need to be removed, it can be done in a shorter or a longer period of time. The doctor will use a cannula to perform the suctioning of the fat deposits whether he’ll use the UAL or tumescent liposuction technique. Before the operation, make sure you discuss with your doctor the advantages and disadvantages of the techniques and your concerns about the procedure, techniques, etc.
There’s a possibility that another cosmetic procedure have to be done if removing excess fat would also mean leaving excess skin. For instance, if you’ve had a facial liposuction, you most probably would need a facelift. This is another reason why you need to properly discuss with your doctor how the liposculpture will be done on you. Ask the doctor for before-and-after photos of his successful operations.
After the Procedure
Every surgery presents possible risks, including infection and adverse reactions to anesthesia, medications, etc. There will, of course, be temporary bruising, swelling, and/or soreness. However these bruising and swelling effects will be gone in a couple of weeks or so. In case they persist beyond the healing period your doctor mentioned to you, call him immediately.
In about 2 weeks, someone who’s had a liposculpture can go back to his normal schedule of activities. However, strenuous activities need to be postponed for until at least a month after procedure.
Other potential risks include asymmetrical body parts that were treated, skin irregularities, fluid retention, infection, and pigment changes. Skin burns are also possible when UAL liposuction is used.
While this procedure removes your fat cells for good, you need to keep in mind that you can have this weight and fat problem again. Proper diet and exercise need to done to make sure that the fat cells that were removed won’t be replaced by new fat deposits.
